A Bad Church Installment
I never understood why the Christian churches, when conquering the Mesoamerican territory, never bothered to listen. After all, it is what was conspired on their congregations to do..., to sit and listen to the Priest or Minister speak. So why was it that they never bothered to listen, to another band of "God's" children? You tell me......, after you have read some of these beautiful proverbs found in Bonnie Louise Kuchler's book, "One Heart, Wisdom From the World's Scriptures."
On Lying:
"It does not require many words to speak the truth." —Chief Joseph, Nez Perce
"Lose your temper, lose a friend. Lie and you lose yourself." —Hopi Indians
"Those who consider themselves religious, but, do not keep a tight rein on their tongues, disgrace themselves and their religion becomes worthless." —The Bible, James 1:26
On Inner strife:
"I seek strength not to be greater than my brother, but, too fight my greatest enemy- myself." —Chief Yellow Lark, Lakota
"When I want to do good, evil is right there in me."—The Bible, Romans 7:21
On Obtaining Guidance:
"When the wisdom-keepers speak, all should listen." Seneca Proverb, Native American Indian Religion
"Hold onto instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it's your life."—The Bible, Proverbs 4:13.
On Brotherly Love: (Christ's big mantra was/is "Brotherly Love".)
"Love one another and do not strive for another's undoing." —Seneca Proverb, Native American Indian Religion
"Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect." —First of the Native American Commandments of the Native American Religions
"Work together for the benefit of all Mankind." —Fourth of the Native American Commandments of the Native American Religions
On Right and Wrong: (The mojo of the Old Testament is filled with rights and wrong doings.)
"Do what you know to be right, but becareful not to fall in self-righteousness." —From the Native American Commandments of the Native American Religions
I am never not amazed at the cruel diversity in which the Christian religion and many of their churches has pursued the teachings of Jesus Christ, in such a vial manner. Now our country possibly faces more upcoming elections where "white men", are troubled by the very idea that their religion is the right religion, and that God is only for the Christians. Well as a Christian, I say their wrong. Keep Church and State separate, and keep the constitution safe from the witch's noose. We cannot afford another era of McCarthyism.
We have to ask ourselves, what have we learned from God? If anything, it is love.... Be mindful of voting upon your "self-righteousness".

Wonderful hub! Really, all the religions teach the same thing through their proverbs. That's why we believe there is one God. Confusis, Buddha, etc. all have proverbs that say basically the same thing. We do have to watch out for self-righteous people.
All I can say, my friend, is that all who fly the banner of Christianity aren't, else they would follow the principles outlined above. I believe the missionaries that were converting the native american tribes and the missionaries that helped the starving and told them about Jesus never acted as you have described. The articles that you write always show me the disparity between Christians "so called" and true Christians that did follow those mandates of Scripture and those mirrored in the wise sayings of the peoples they ministered to. As always, my deepest affection to you Julie. Bob.

Excellent proverbs. Different cultures have to listen to each other more often and kill each other less often.
